Review: Fiat 500 2021

The contract hire Fiat 500 led the way for the boom in small retro-style cars with economic engines and the latest versions impress.

Not only are they easy cars to drive, particularly around town, but they are also cheap to buy and run.

The exterior design is still heavily influenced by the original models, while everything else is up to date.

Drivers get to choose between and the fully electric 500 la Prima trim or opt for the classic 500 which is still a popular choice.

Fiat 500 car lease

And, unlike many other carmakers, the Fiat 500 car lease is still available as a three-door choice.

There's also the 500C which is a stylish convertible, and the much bigger Fiat 500L which is a spacious MPV.

Engines for the Fiat 500 range include a 1.2-litre petrol engine with four-cylinders that produces 68bhp for the entry-level version. Fuel consumption is 46 mpg.

However, there is better performance from the 0.9-litre TwinAir engines with two-cylinders that develop 84bhp and returns around 53mpg.

The smaller engine helps to deliver the agile and rewarding drive expected from the popular small Italian car.

The diesel engine has been dropped from the range.

Lease a 500

If you want to lease a Fiat 500, there's also a mild hybrid version with a 1.0-litre petrol engine that is mated to a 12-volt system.

The battery is topped up when the car is braked, and the power is delivered to help with acceleration.

Its economy is around 54mpg with emissions of 88g/km to make it an attractive opportunity for company car drivers wanting a low Benefit-in-Kind (BiK) rate.

Behind the wheel, the Fiat 500 offers a rewarding drive with great visibility and the seats are comfortable.

Some models also feature 'city steering', which is a mode to make the steering even lighter when parking.

Interior has been well-designed

The interior has been well-designed, and the dashboard colours will match the exterior paintwork to underline the classic car appeal.

The boot size is 185 litres, though most drivers will not be leasing a city car because of its boot size.

The Fiat 500 range is well-equipped and there's a long list of personalisation options.

The entry-level Pop comes with electric windows, daytime running lights and a USB connection.

The next model up, the Lounge, offers better value for money with alloy wheels, cruise control, air-conditioning, rear parking sensors and split-folding seats.

This trim also comes with a seven-inch infotainment system, Uconnect.

There's also smartphone compatibility, a DAB radio and Bluetooth connectivity.

The Fiat 500 car leasing range

There's also plenty of safety kit on board the Fiat 500 car leasing range with anti-lock brakes, an emergency braking system and hill-start assist.

One potential downside for drivers is that the 500 only has three stars under the new testing regime from Euro NCAP.

The car is also up against the likes of the Citroen C1 and Skoda Citigo, as well as the DS DS3 but the retro looks help to give it an edge for those who want a decent, small performer.

Essentially, the Fiat 500 car leasing range offers a stylish and trendy city car that is THE choice for those who want to follow fashion - and the nice handling and comfort levels make this a small car to enjoy.
