Review: Kia XCeed 2021

The Kia XCeed car leasing range is effectively a jacked-up version of the popular Ceed on which it is based.

It's 43mm taller and has a striking design with only the nose being retained and Kia adding a longer bonnet, new bumpers and grille as well as a skid-plate style finish.

The XCeed is meant to rival other crossovers in the market such as the Volkswagen T-Cross and the Toyota C-HR - and does a great job.

It costs slightly more than the Kia Ceed hatchback and among its attractions is an impressive equipment list.

Contract hire Kia XCeed

There's no doubt too that the contract hire Kia XCeed has a suspension that delivers a comfortable and smooth ride, and the steering gives good feedback.

The tyres are also larger, and the overall impression is that this is a more involved car to drive than a 'proper SUV'.

It's also a quiet cabin to spend time in, it's nice to drive around town but it is also a surprisingly good motorway cruiser.

Kia XCeed car lease

Engines for the Kia XCeed car lease line-up include a 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine producing 118 bhp and this is a sound choice for driving in towns.

There's a more powerful 1.4-litre unit producing 138 bhp and the petrol engines return around 43mpg, with emissions of 150g/km.

The diesel engines consist of a 1.6-litre unit delivering either 114 bhp or 138 bhp and offer a relaxing performance on motorways. The diesel engines return 54mpg, with emissions of 138G/KM.

Plug-in hybrid Kia XCeed

In 2020, the plug-in hybrid Kia XCeed model was unveiled, and it uses a 1.6-litre petrol engine with an 8.9kWh battery and an electric motor.

The combined power output is just 139 bhp but the all-electric range is 36 miles.

However, for company car drivers, the plug-in hybrid XCeed is an ideal choice with fuel economy of up to 202mpg, and emissions of just 32g/km for a low Benefit-in-Kind (BiK) rate.

The interior has some resemblance to the standard Ceed, though there's a new 10.25-inch infotainment system that impresses.

The entry-level model features an eight-inch display and has a rear-view camera and smartphone compatibility.

Equipment for the XCeed

Standard equipment for the XCeed includes alloy wheels, keyless entry, LED headlights, cruise control and air-conditioning.

Other models feature part-leather seats, tinted glass, dual-zone climate control and a heated steering wheel and front seats.

The top spec model features a 12.3-inch digital instrument display.

The range-topper also features a panoramic sunroof, yellow interior detailing, wireless phone charging and a JBL sound system.

Lots of interior space

While this is not a fully-fledged SUV, there's still lots of interior space and storage for the XCeed.

For those sitting in the rear seats, there's also plenty of legroom.

Visibility from the raised driver's seat is also very good and the rear-view camera does prove useful.

The boot size is 426 litres, and it is smaller in the plug-in hybrid at 291 litres.

While the car has yet to be tested by Euro NCAP, the Ceed on which it is based has four stars in the normal guise, and with the optional safety pack, the score rises to five stars.

Safety features for the XCeed

Standard safety features for the XCeed include autonomous emergency braking and lane-keeping assist, while other models feature pedestrian detection, blind spot warning, smart cruise control and speed sign recognition.

Essentially, the Kia XCeed car lease is expected to be the most popular choice in the Ceed family and with its performance and relaxed driving style, that's not surprising and it's a great choice for families and for those who like a spacious and cheap to run car.
