Rising from the East

Kia is a South Korean motor car manufacturer founded in 1944 and part-owned by the Hyundai Motor Company. Kia, like the country, has had a varied history, originally a bike manufacturer and then predominantly assembling cars and motorbikes under license from Honda, Mazda, and Fiat for the Asian market.

Kia started selling cars in the UK in 1991 with the Kia Pride, a supermini, and a rebadged Mazda 121. With various attempts to establish the brand, launching cars like the Clarus and Mentor, it failed to make any traction with the UK public until the launch of the then cheapest full-size people carrier, the Sedona, which was a massive success at establishing Kia in the UK.

Today Kia range is very much their own, with creative designs and precision build, they are still a great value brand, but the value is in the quality and the technology you get in the package, including the 7-year warranty.

Kia still offers Petrol and Diesel engines

Within their range, and they have also developed a range of Mild Hybrid, Hybrid electric, Plug-in Hybrid and fully electric cars.

Traditional superminis, like the Picanto and family hatchbacks, like the Rio, and the Stonic small compact SUV, are still part of Kia’s portfolio; the ever-popular X-Ceed has just had a facelift and will be available as a Plug-in Hybrid.

Kia Hybrid vehicles, or HEVs, have a conventional petrol engine and a small battery. The battery is rechargeable, meaning it is usually replenished when decelerating.

HEV functions in full electric mode only when stationary, at low speed or decelerating. At other times, the battery supports the engine for greater fuel efficiency.

Kia Plug-in-Hybrid vehicles, or PHEVs, allow you to drive in electric mode for most of your short journeys while if travelling much further, it uses both petrol and electricity. They have a small battery that can be charged at home or a public charging point.

When starting from fully charged, a PHEV can be in full-electric mode for up to 40 miles; after that, it uses a combination of the engine on the battery in tandem, replenishing the battery by braking and deceleration.*

Kia electric vehicles, or EVs

Run solely on electricity, which offers quiet operation, zero emissions and breath-taking acceleration.

The all-new Sportage SUV is now in its fifth generation; inspired by organic forms, it has a sleek muscular surface with sharp lines that appeal to the eye.

Kia Sportage still offers petrol and turbocharged diesel engines; however, there is now a Mild Hybrid with 1.6 petrol or 1.6 diesel engines, and for the first time, Kia has a Hybrid Electric and a Plug-in Hybrid Electric; both use the 1.6 turbocharged petrol engine and have a 1.49 kWh battery and 13.8 kWh, respectively.

Trim levels on the Sportage are advertised as a cutting-edge and clutter-free premium cabin, even on the entry-level 2 series. Other models in the Sportage are GT -Line, 3, 4, and GT-Line S, as well as engine options; there are options for two or 4x4 drive and manual and auto gearboxes.

It is an excellent, well-specified, affordable car with a Personal Contract Hire.

The All-new Kia Niro is a premium passenger vehicle available in three different models the Niro hybrid, the Niro plug-in hybrid and the electric Niro EV.

On the Hybrid, the preferred engine is the 1.6 petrol with a 1.32KWh lithium battery in the Hybrid version and an 11.1 kW lithium battery in the Plug-in Hybrid version. The EV has a 64.8 kW lithium battery producing 201 brake horsepower and a mileage range on a full charge of 285* miles; automatic gearboxes are standard across the range.

Each model comes in three different trim levels, with 2 being entry-level; even this comes with a high level of clever technology, including an 8” touchscreen display, Apple and Android CarPlay front and rear parking sensors, reversing camera system and smart cruise control.

The other levels, 3 and 4, are equally impressive, with each level increasing in technology and futuristic, sleek and striking styling.

The 2022 European Car of the year was the Kia EV6.

It was the first Kia to use the Hyundai-developed Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP); it is also the first Kia to use the nomenclature designation for Kia EVs, which will be EV1-EV9 in the future.

The Kia EV6 fully electric crossover claims up to 328 miles of driving range on a full charge*; the 77.4-kilowatt battery pack also has ultra-fast charging from 10 to 80% in only 18 minutes*. Available in either rear-wheel drive or an all-wheel drive with an impressive performance of 0 62 mph in 5.2 seconds [AWD]

Trim levels are EV6 air, EV6 GT-line or EV6 GT- GT line S inside the cockpit, all levels have the stylish 12.3” curved driver display screen, heated front seats and heated steering wheel, and the GT line has additional sports exterior styling. The top-of-the-range GT line S has a powered tailgate and sliding and tilting sunroof; this trim level also comes with Heads up display and remote smart park assist.

No matter which EV6 you choose, this sporty crossover has sleek, eye-catching good looks, with a distinct rear LED light signature.

There is also hey EV6GT performance car

It comes with a dual motor 577 brake horsepower performance that will do 0 to 62mph in 3.5 seconds*,21-inch alloys are standard, and the GT is available in any colour you wish as long it is black or white!

Today, Kia is one of the best-improved car brands available in the UK, technological developments have improved, and the styling is very distinct and futuristic. The build quality has become top-notch, and it retains its great value.

There are many deals and offers available for your next Kia. Some of the best deals are leasing or personal contract hire (PCH). Here are some benefits of choosing PCH.

One of the main advantages of a PCH is that it can help you budget more effectively. Your monthly payments are fixed, so you'll always know exactly how much you need to set aside. This can be particularly useful if you're worried about your expenses increasing.

Other benefits of choosing a PCH deal include a low initial payment and the ability to personalise your lease to suit your needs. Plus, with many different Tilsun models available on lease, you can get a higher-specification car for your budget.

So, if you're considering leasing your Kia, check out the best Tilsun Leasing PCH deals.
