Porsche, a brief history.

Porsche is a German car manufacturer specialising in high-performance sports cars, SUVs, and Grand Tourers. Its headquarters are in Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Volkswagen AG owns the company.

The current livery of these super sports cars from Porsche includes the 718 Boxster,718 Cayman911 (992)  Panamera, Taycan and the SUVs  Macan and Cayenne.

The founder of Porsche is Ferdinand Porsche, an Austrian-born engineer who, at 23, first came to prominence in early 1900 when working as an engineer at the Jacob Löhner Factory, helping to develop a gasoline-electric hybrid vehicle called the Löhner-Porsche Mixed Hybrid.

After winning a coveted engineering award in 1906, he was recruited as chief designer at Austro Daimler. By 1916 he had progressed to managing director. He received an honorary doctorate from the Vienna University of Technology, earning the title Dr Ing. h.c, an abbreviation of “Doktor Ingenieur Honoris Causa” FP.[1]

1926

In 1926 Daimler merged with Benz to become Daimler Benz. Porsche's ideas for a small, lightweight Mercedes-Benz were not popular with Daimler’s board, and he left in 1929 to work for Styer Automobile; due to the Great Depression, Porsche ended up being made redundant.[2]

In 1931 he founded a design and consultancy company called “Dr Ing h.c. Porsche GmbH” along with fellow directors Adolf Rosenberger and Anton Pіёch.

One of the company’s first assignments was from the German government at the time to develop a “people's car” this resulted in the Volkswagen Beetle, One of the most successful car designs of all time.

During the Second World War, Porsche was asked to design several heavy tanks, including the chassis for the Tiger 1 tank and the Elefant tank destroyer. Porsche also developed the Maus super-heavy tank.

At the end of the war, Ferdinand Porsche was arrested for complicit war crimes. Still, he was never tried; however, during his 20-month imprisonment, Ferdinand’s son Ferry Porsche decided to build his own car; as he famously said, “he could not find an existing one he wanted to buy.” [3]

The first Porsche

was born in the shape of the 356, built by the Porsche Konstruktioen, a company founded by Ferry and his sister Louise. Dr Ing h.c. Porsche GmbH took over production on Ferdinand’s release from prison until he died in 1951.[1] At the time, because of raw material shortages, many components were used from the Beatle built in this first Porsche car.

After the success of the 356, including many upgrades, notably the 6-cylinder air-cooled boxer engine, the now-established Porsche design team recognised that the 356 required a significant redesign. It launched the now-famous Porsche 911 rear-engine air-cooled sports car designed by Ferdinand Alexander, Ferry’s son.

The Porsche 911

It gave the company its breakthrough, and it became one of the leading sports car manufacturers in the world from both the technical and design perspectives [4]. Although the 911 has constantly developed over the decades, it retains its original character, a genuine sports car for enthusiasts worldwide.

The current Porsche model range and the future Porsche sports cars are already coming to the starting line in the form of Mission E, The first pure electrical driven Porsches.

An example of this new breed is the Porsche Taycan Sports Turismo performance battery plus. It does everything you want from a Porsche stunning look, legendry handling and power at your fingertips, 0 to 100km/h in 5.4 seconds, a top speed of 230KM/h power output of 380 BHP electrical range between 417 and 491 kilometres on a full charge, all this with Zero CO2 emissions. *

Porsche is an emotive brand, and there is no doubt that leasing a Porsche is an excellent choice, offering a high level of technology and engineering. Porsche also has an excellent residual value.

One of the main advantages of Personal or Business Contract Hire is that it can help you budget more effectively. Your monthly payments are fixed, so you'll always know exactly how much you need to set aside. This can be particularly useful if you're worried about your expenses increasing.

Other benefits of choosing a Contract Hire deal include a low initial payment and the ability to personalise your lease to suit your needs. Plus, with many different Porsche models available on lease, you can get a higher-specification car for your budget.
